Ethical Birding
General Birding Ethics
Birding is about appreciation, not disturbance. Our club encourages ethical birding practices that put the safety and security of birds and their habitats first. By keeping a respectful distance, avoiding habitat damage, and being mindful of sensitive species, we can help ensure that birds and other animals can thrive and that future generations can enjoy them too. The resources below outline best practices we encourage all members, from beginners to seasoned birders, to follow in the field
Photography Specific Ethics
Photographing birds and animals comes with a responsibility to put their safety and well-being above getting the shot. Ethical bird photography means minimizing disturbance, avoiding stress, especially during nesting or sensitive seasons, and never altering behavior or habitat for an image. By practicing patience, using appropriate distance and equipment, and respecting wildlife and private land, we can create meaningful images while ensuring earths creatures remain safe and wild. The resources below outline guidelines we encourage all wildlife photographers to follow.
Any bird walk attendees not following general good birding ethics or disturbing wildlife in an attempt at better visuals/photographs will be warned once if minor then promptly asked to leave thereafter.
