Land Acknowledgement

Who’s Land?

Our club would like to acknowledge that the land where we gather, bird, and learn is the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Indigenous peoples of this region, including the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Chinook Bands, Tualatin Kalapuya, Willamette Tumwater, Wasco-Wishram, the Cayuse, the Molalla and other tribes and bands of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

These peoples have cared for and stewarded this land and its waters since time immemorial. As a bird club, we recognize that our enjoyment of birds and habitats is possible because of this enduring relationship, and we honor the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous communities to the care of the natural world. It is important for us all to remember that we are guests of this land and that it is important to honor the original peoples and their connections to that land.
